The Do’s and Don’ts of Hemorrhoid Home Treatment
Hemorrhoids are one of the most embarrassing disorders a person could have. Do you agree? Definitely Yes! Can you just imagine a person preventing himself to scratch from behind even if he wanted to do it so badly – plus the fact that the disorder involves a sensitive part of the body? Mostly, people would tend to try hemorrhoid home treatment first before consulting to the doctor.
Home treatment for hemorrhoids is actually an excellent way you can do to prevent occurrence of hemorrhoids. It is preferred by many because it is convenient and cost-effective. So before starting, I just want you to understand the basics about hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are small lumps or protrusions seen on the anal region of the body. They are dilated and irritated veins of the rectal walls. It has two types, the internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are not painful but are prone to bleeding than external hemorrhoids.
Statistics have shown that hemorrhoid occurs a lot more in males compared to females. Hemorrhoids are prevalent to aging adults as well. Their veins become too fragile and easily get distended due to lack of elasticity.
So now, be ready for your first tip. Do – Identify your triggers and avoid them. One common triggering factor of hemorrhoid development is prolonged standing and sitting. Do not strain during bowel elimination. Doing this will just increase the chances of developing or irritating a hemorrhoid.
Do – Drink a minimum of two liters of fluids each day. Keeping your body well hydrated will help you have proper circulation of blood. It will also keep the stools moist, easier for them to pass through the intestines during bowel emptying.
The minimum fluid requirement before was 8 glasses per day but now, it was updated to at least 2 liters a day. It will depend to your activities, the more you perspire, the more fluids are needed. This will help the body maintain adequate fluids.
Do – Application of ice packs is another effective hemorrhoid home treatment. Ice packs offer an instant relief. Prepare a crushed ice and put it inside a plastic container. Wrap it with a cloth and put it directly into the affected area. Wait for 10 to 15 minutes until relief is felt.
Do not wear tight fitting undergarments. They will increase friction and irritation of the hemorrhoids. Refrain from wearing thongs or g-strings until the hemorrhoid is healed. Instead, wear loose cotton-made underwear to have proper flow of air.
Do – Try tub therapy. Just like ice packs, this procedure is very convenient and easy to do. Fill the tub with Luke warm water and then submerge the buttocks for 20 minutes until pain is relieved. You can do this as much as needed.
