Elite Fitness to move, expand this summer
Elite Fitness is expanding with a planned move to a new, larger location this summer.
The locally owned 24-hour gym is expected to move from 10416 Spencer Highway in La Porte into the site of the former Food Town at 9701 Spencer Highway at Underwood in Deer Park.
Construction and renovation are underway at the 50,000-square-foot facility at the new location, which will increase the gym’s space and services.
Going from its current facility, which is just under 7,000 square feet, to the new building will allow the gym to more than double its equipment inventory and personal training staff and add amenities like commercial and warehouse-style training spaces, outdoor and group sessions, large locker rooms, a sauna, smoothie bar, post-workout recovery room, a supplement-and-apparel shop and childcare services for members.
“We are going to be filling a much, much larger area,” said manager, Kaylie Hart.
The new location will offer more parking.

“Our main issue at our current location is growth because we’ve outgrown the parking lot,” Hart said. “The new space has a much larger parking space; so we do expect a major increase in our membership.”
Elite Fitness was opened by owner Ty Aston in 2017, and the gym set out to provide an alternate, more personalized fitness experience than what would be experienced at big-box fitness chains. The new facility will be an opportunity to build on what Aston and staff have already established, including a cross training area.
“It’s definitely going to be different than walking into a Fitness Connection or 24-Hour Fitness,” she said. “It’s going to have a more locally owned feel with some of the separate sections we have now that you don’t see at the big-box gyms.”
Based in La Porte, the gym has connections to its community through various outreach programs it hosts throughout the year, such as suicide prevention awareness events. That outreach will also expand, said Hart.
“Community outreach is one of the things (Aston) feels very passionate about,” Hart said. “With the larger parking lot, we’ll be able to use that to host more charitable events. We’ve already partnered with local groups to put on events that really benefit the community and raise awareness of certain things.”
That local connection is a major part of the gym’s business and community identity, according to Hart.
“We (staff members) grew up in the Deer Park and La Porte area; so by joining our gym you’re supporting people you possibly went to high school with,” Hart said. “We’re not just opening this location to take people’s money — we want to impact the community is a positive way and give people a place that they want to be a part of beyond just working out.”
